WORK WISE URGES NORTH EAST TO STAFFSHARE
Work Wise North East is behind the new initiative, StaffShare -a scheme which enables organisations to second the time of their staff - as part of their efforts to promote smarter working throughout the region.
Launched by Work Wise UK, StaffShare will allow organisations to register individuals, who are currently under-utilised or in a redeployment pool, on a website offering their services on short or medium term secondment basis. Organisations interested in an individual can then buy their services for the selected period through the website.
The website will match under-used corporate skills with organisations which have a need to use those skills, but perhaps not the resources or requirement to deploy them permanently.
Simon Roberson, chairman of Work Wise North East, explains:
"The last ten years have seen unprecedented growth and employment levels within the UK. Recent events mean that all sectors of the economy will come under increasing pressure to work smarter and be more productive.
"This innovative scheme helps keep people in employment by providing organisations with a simple and effective way of safely trading specialist skills via employee secondment. This reduces the risk of loss of skills, intellectual property, unique selling points and market intelligence in this difficult economic time."
This scheme will be especially helpful for organisations which often find themselves under-resourced at key times of the year and can use StaffShare as a way of bringing in expertise (e.g. for grant writing, fundraising campaigns and end of year accounting) at exactly the right time and in precisely the right place to better accomplish its goals.
Simon added:
"Work Wise North East hopes that many organisations throughout the region will become involved to avoid the tragic waste of talent that occurs when companies rush into redundancies as soon as conditions start to get tough."
Partly funded by One NorthEast, Work Wise North East is a not-for-profit organisation which promotes smarter working practices. Working in partnership with Association of North East Councils, BT, Dickinson Dees, EEF Northern, Equality North East, Government Office North East, Nexus, North East Chamber of Commerce, One Northeast, Onyx Group, RBLI, The Workplace Travel Plan Company and TUC, Work Wise North East stages various initiatives, such as Commute Smart Week, National Work from Home Day and Work Wise Week, which highlight the benefits of smarter working.
Organisations can currently register individuals to be included in the pilot StaffShare scheme at www.staffshare.co.uk/home/
